Leader in Me
CFHC is proud to be co-leading the Leader in Me initiative alongside Henderson County Education Foundation.
The Leader in Me initiative focuses on a whole school transformation that teaches leadership and life skills. The Foundation has committed $164,000 over a five year period from Field of Interest and Community Funds.
"We chose to be involved with the initiative because we envision the impact of having a generation of our county, across every soci-economic group gain pertinent leadership and life skills,"
- McCray Benson, CFHC President/CEO
Food Insecurity in Henderson County
10.7% of the population in Henderson County faces food insecurity; 22% of the food insecure population does not qualify for SNAP or other assistance programs.
Since 2009, CFHC has awarded more than $280,000 in grants to 20 organizations with the intention of contributing to food security and food assistance programs.
Recently, the Foundation convened a group of key service providers who all immediately agreed that while local indicators show improvement, the fact remains that one in five persons still report they are food insecure.
The conversation must continue and it must expand to larger groups. Community Foundation of Henderson County is committed to making a lasting change in this area.

Since 2009, an additional $3.2 million has been granted to organizations that are known to assist in food distribution. It is important to note that this amount does not reflect and accurate number of dollars dedicated to food security and assistance programs. Homelessness & Housing in Henderson County
Safe, adequate, affordable housing and concern for those identified as "homeless" has long been at the top of emerging issues in our community.
In 2015, CFHC began initiating conversations with community leaders to come together and learn more about the issue and the community quality of life that is subsequently affected.
